Deborah Jones

Founder
Deb founded the Wyly Community Art Center in 1996 at which time she became Executive Director of the organization. In 2008 Deb became Program Director of the Wyly to focus on designing and expanding the public registration classes, partnership and volunteer programs and community events. Deb moved to the Roaring Fork Valley in 1973 after co-founding and directing the Graphic Workshop in Boston, Massachusetts. She designed and instructed the Aspen Community School art program for kindergarten through 8th grades from 1973-1993. She has served on the Aspen Education Research Foundation Board and the Aspen Snowmass Arts Education Committee.

Deb received a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston where she was a co-founder and artist for the Graphic Workshop. She has lived and taught art in the valley for 38 years. Deborah’s mixed media art transforms found images integrated with painting and drawing into collage pieces that are a response to a variety of life themes; memory, contradiction, ambiguity, documentation, discovery, and wonder. Her work is as informed by her own personal narrative and history as it is by the tradition of graphic design, drawing, painting and visual journaling. Deborah’s art has been exhibited locally and nationally. She currently lives and works in Basalt, Colorado. www.deborahjonesart.com

He looking forward to starting a curatorial internship with the Aspen Art Museum. Lars hopes to move to Sweden in the Spring of 2010.

She has been a Wyly intern since winter 2010. Megan interns at the Wyly to learn more about art and work on her artistic skills.

Nettie Stenstadvold

Anette, also sometimes known as Nettie, is a senior at Basalt High School. When she is not spending her time at the wonderful Wyly, Nettie enjoys baking, cross country skiing, and doodling. The ideas behind her own artwork usually stem from her interest in science, specifically biology; however, Nettie is continually learning and open to new ways of expressing herself through various forms of art.

Ruby Rappaport

Ruby may be our newest intern at the Wyly, but she has been coming to Wyly Community Art Center classes and events since she was 5 years old. Now in 8th grade, Ruby volunteers at least once a week! She likes how anyone here can be creative. In her free time, Ruby hangs out with friends, jumps on the trampoline, and reads. We are honored to have her as part of our team.

Simone Franklin

Simone is seventeen and currently a senior at Aspen High School. She will be interning at the Wyly during this school year for National Honors Society (and for an excuse to do more art). She loved going to Waldorf from kindergarten to eighth grade and feels fortunate that I had the opportunity to do so. She is an art fanatic, and cannot survive school without having at least one art class all the time. She is looking forward to going to college and traveling abroad.
